Organic Carbon

a: Noncalcareous samples: Organic Carbon is determined by dry combustion of a sample at 900°C and subsequent measurement of CO2 evolved by using an Elementar vario MAX cube.

b: Calcareous samples: The soil samples are fumigated with hydrochloric acid for 16 hours to remove carbonates. Once carbonates are removed, the above method (a) is used.
